Before the Event

When will this website be updated with more information?
The 2020 Independent Reading Summit website will be updated with new information and additional details in February 2020.

Who should attend?
The Independent Reading Summit is a day of learning and collaboration. While the content is designed for educators, most adults would enjoy the day. All attendees must be registered. Since the content is age-appropriate, anyone under the age of 18 should not attend.

I need to pay for registration with a Purchase Order. Does it need to be paid before I attend?
Yes, you must submit payment for registration before attending. To request a copy of your invoice, please contact 877-348-8222 or email us. Registration payments via Purchase Order are not accepted at the venue.

Can I book a room at the hotel for a discounted rate?
Yes, we have reserved a block of hotel rooms at a negotiated rate. Hotel guest room information can be found in the "Location Information" section at the bottom of the city-specific location page.

Where can I find directions to the venue?

Is transportation provided to/from the airport?
At this time, the venues do not offer complimentary transportation to and from the airport. Please schedule transportation accordingly.

Where should I park?

Is there a charge for parking?
No, parking is included at all locations. If the venue charges for parking, simply bring your parking ticket to the registration desk for validation.

Is there a cancellation policy?
If a registrant is unable to attend for any reason, they may substitute, by arrangement with the registrar, someone else to attend in their place.

Where the registrant is unable to attend and is not in a position to transfer his/her place to another person or to another Summit, then the following refund arrangements apply:
  • 30-60 days prior to event date – 50% refund
  • 0-29 days prior to event date – no refund
  • No-show registrations will not be refunded.

During the Event

Can I pay the registration fee on the day of the Independent Reading Summit?
Walk-ins on the day of the event are allowed with a credit card or Scholastic Dollars payment only.

What are the hours of the Independent Reading Summit?
The event starts at 7:30 AM and ends at 4:00 PM (local time). An agenda can be found on the city-specific location page.

What is the dress code?
This is a business casual event. Because temperatures vary you may wish to bring a sweater or wrap, to remain comfortable in air conditioning.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
Most of what you will need during the Independent Reading Summit will be supplied. However, a notebook, pen or electronic device for note-taking may be necessary. Because temperatures vary, you may wish to bring a sweater or wrap to remain comfortable in the air conditioning. Remember, there will also be a Book Fair available for shopping.

What is served for lunch? Will special dietary requests be considered?
Family-style lunch will be served at each venue. We take into account special dietary requests. Please advise a representative on the day of the Summit if you have any specific needs.

What are the hours of the Book Fair?
The Book Fair is open from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM (local time).

What forms of payment are accepted for shopping at the Book Fair?
We accept credit cards, cash, and Scholastic Dollars.

Can purchased items be shipped from the venue to me?
We are happy to ship a box of purchased items for a nominal fee. Please see a representative in the Book Fair area for more information.

After the Event

How do I get my Certificate of Completion?
You will receive your Certificate of Completion in the post-event survey email after the event. If you do not receive this email, please contact 877-348-8222 or email readingsummit@scholasticbookfairs.com

Will the training hours be accepted by my school?
Present the Certificate of Completion to your School District; they will need to confirm if the eight hours will apply.

How can I get access to the presentations from the Workshops I attended?
Please visit the Resources page on or after August 10, 2020. Please note: Unless a presenter has shared a private link to their presentation, the material is proprietary.
